Q: Can a mistake destroy my ministry?
Life is filled with unmet expectations and human weakness. The enemy would like us to believe that any time something doesn’t go the way we expected, it will destroy our testimony before people, causing it to be difficult to share the Word of God with them. We must, however, remember it is not our life we are preaching—it is Jesus’!
Even if the Word of God never worked for us (and we know it does), it would not negate the fact that His Word is true and that it will change the lives of those who receive it. Our job is not build reputations for ourselves, but to continue preaching the uncompromised gospel of Jesus Christ and make His Name famous in the earth.
The Apostle Paul had to deal with this in his own ministry. After he was stoned and persecuted, he was tempted to not preach the gospel to the church at Galatia. He wondered what the people would think, but he was not despised or rejected; he was received as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus (Galatians 4:13-14). Although a messenger of Satan had come to hinder him, there were still miracles worked among the people because he was preaching the gospel (2 Corinthians 12:7-10; Galatians 3:5).
As Paul exercised his faith in God’s Word, he was delivered (2 Timothy 3:10-11). He prayed three times when Satan tried to hinder him from doing what God had called him to do, but God told him that His grace was sufficient and His strength was made perfect in weakness. In other words, He was telling Paul that His grace was more than enough to overcome. When Paul exercised his faith in that, he did overcome—he was delivered!
Regardless of what Satan brings your way, just keep preaching the Word of God, and the Word will enable you to overcome (Proverbs 4:8). Pay no attention to cunning remarks. We know who the thief is! We know that it is a lack of knowledge of God’s Word and how to use it that causes people to fail (Hosea 4:6). Just because you missed it once, doesn’t mean you should quit. Keep fighting the good fight of faith and remember that you are an overcomer in Him (1 Timothy 6:12; 1 John 4:4)!
