Q: Is there anything wrong with the New Age movement?
The New Age movement is one of many religions and belief systems in the world today. Here’s the problem—all religions and non-Christian belief systems teach that we have no need of a savior or that we can earn salvation by good works or attaining higher spiritual levels.
The desire for a higher level of spiritual maturity is good. But many promise a slightly different outcome—a supposedly higher level of spirituality reachable only by understanding the “divine self within.” Although this concept might seem intriguing, we find the way to true spiritual maturity by focusing on God’s Word only. His way is through relationship with Him and finding the true peace that comes only through accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior.
There is only one true God and one way to Him. Isaiah 46:9 says, “…For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me.” Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” Jesus chose to die on the cross and pay the penalty for all of man’s sin. He experienced all the pain that sin brings so that we wouldn’t have to. He was filled with a love for us so great it caused Him to die for us, but He is not dead today. Jesus is alive!
God has “raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6). You can’t attain a higher level of spiritual reality than by being seated with Christ in heavenly places. You can’t get deeper into the things of God than by the ministry of His Holy Spirit who “searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets” (1 Corinthians 2:10). Here’s God’s plan for your spiritual maturity: Simply receive the complete sufficiency of what Jesus has already done and make Him the Lord of your life.
