God’s True View of Prosperity
“Prosperity. Is it a blessing or a curse?”
That’s how Kenneth Copeland opens Blessed to Be a Blessing, and it’s a question that’s still shaping believers’ lives today. For years, religion has confused the issue, making many think there’s something wrong with wealth, or that God uses poverty to make His children holy. But the Word of God says otherwise. Poverty Is Not a Blessing. It’s a Curse.
Deuteronomy 28 makes it crystal clear: poverty is listed among the curses.
“Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store… cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field” (Deuteronomy 28:16-17, KJV).
That’s not the will of God; it’s the result of disobedience and the curse of the law. God never called poverty a teacher or a spiritual tool. As Brother Copeland wrote,
“Poverty destroys! When you look at the pictures of babies with bloated stomachs… It’s obviously the work of Satan.”
Poverty steals, kills, and destroys; it’s the devil’s work. And once we understand that truth, we’ll stop tolerating what Jesus already redeemed us from.
Redeemed From the Curse, Blessed of The Lord
Galatians 3:13-14 declares:
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us… That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ.”
Through Christ, you’ve been set free from the curse of lack and empowered to walk in the blessing of abundance. The same God who made Abraham “very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold” (Genesis 13:2) still delights in prospering His people today.
God’s prosperity isn’t greed, it’s grace. It’s having more than enough so that you can meet the needs of others and advance the kingdom of God.
As Kenneth Copeland writes, “You are blessed to be a blessing. You oversee both your and His resources.”
When you understand this, prosperity becomes a tool of ministry, not a source of pride. You’ll stop seeing money as evil and start seeing it as a servant of God’s purpose.
Deuteronomy 8:18 tells us,
“But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant.”
The power to get wealth is not worldly hustle; it’s the anointing of God that empowers you to produce, create, and multiply. The moment you realize that, you’ll stop chasing provision and start walking in divine supply.
Stop agreeing with the lie that says, “Maybe God wants me poor.” Instead, declare:
“I’ve been redeemed from the curse of poverty. The blessing of Abraham is mine through Christ Jesus!”
Poverty is not your teacher; it’s trespassing on your covenant rights. Prosperity isn’t greed; it’s God’s design for kingdom living.
Faith Declaration
Father, I thank You that I’m redeemed from the curse of poverty. The same blessing that made Abraham rich rests upon me through Jesus Christ. I receive Your power to prosper, not for selfish gain, but to establish Your covenant on the earth. I am blessed to be a blessing, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
