Your desire to be an active member of a local church is good. It is a part of our new nature in Christ that gives us the desire to serve the Lord.
But problems can arise in a home where one spouse wants to actively serve God and the other does not. It’s always difficult when there is no agreement on a matter of importance to one spouse or the other. The temptation may be to just give up and quit.
That’s just what Satan wants. He knows your family could become one of his worst enemies, and he will try to destroy it rather than let that happen. Considering separation or neglecting your family in any way is not an option for the believer who really wants to do God’s will. So don’t fight your spouse. Fight your real enemy. Begin visualizing your family serving the Lord together in a mighty way and stand on Joshua 24:15, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
That does not mean for you to lay down your call. Just redirect it. Your family is meant to be included in the call God has for your life and the work you feel He wants you to do. God does not break up families for the work of the ministry. Marriage and family life were God’s idea and He wants us to honor our marriage vows and take care of our families (Malachi 2:16; 1 Timothy 5:8).
As long as your spouse is willing to stay with you, it is your privilege to simply walk in the love of God and show by your example how wonderful it is being a Christian (1 Corinthians 7:12-14). Look up all the scriptures on love and meditate on them. Remember, love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8). So make that quality decision to walk in love. It is a great challenge but in Jesus it can be done! We are believing and rejoicing with you.
