4 Ways to Prepare for Your Healing

25 Mar 2022

Healing always comes. You don’t have to wonder if it’s God’s will for you or if you just have to live with your symptoms for the rest of your life. Healing belongs to you. But while this is true, and you can expect to receive healing, there are some things you need to do to get yourself ready. Here are four ways to prepare yourself to receive your healing.

1. Make adjustments in your life.

“If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land” (Isaiah 1:19NKJV). That’s pretty simple, isn’t it? We like to talk about eating the good of the land, but what about the willingness and obedience? As you prepare to receive your healing, God is talking to you about adjustments you need to make in your life. Do you hear Him?

Take the time to listen. It might be diet, exercise, sleep habits or sin that needs to be eradicated from your life once and for all. This is a critical part of preparing your heart and body to receive healing. Gloria Copeland shared this same principle in Healing School years ago: “You see, that’s why the Lord and I get along so well. I’m simple. I’m just so simple that I believe that He is smarter than I am, and so when He says something, I listen. I change. I make adjustments. I pay attention. I change my way of thinking. And that’s what you need to do if you want to be healed.”

2. Forgive.

Naturally speaking, unforgiveness has been proven to actually cause disease. So, it would certainly make sense that forgiveness is an important step toward ridding the body of sickness. In the spirit, the same is true. The power that forgives us our sins is the same power that heals us. That means the power of unforgiveness is the power of the curse! We don’t need the curse involved when we are going after healing.

Remember, forgiving isn’t condoning an offense or even re-establishing a relationship. It’s a matter of the heart. Satan will try to keep you in unforgiveness to keep you from receiving your healing. Don’t take the bait. Forgive anyone of the smallest (or biggest) offense, and get ready to receive your healing!

3. Focus on love.

Do you walk in love toward others? If you answered yes right away, it’s a sure sign that you don’t. You see, no one is perfect in this area—and while you may not get angry or easily annoyed with others, there is always an area of the love walk that can use improving.

Is there someone you need to apologize to? Do you tend to be critical of others, even if just in your heart? Do you mumble under your breath about bad drivers or people who move slowly in the grocery store? Are you ever impatient, unkind, envious or boastful? Do you feel like you’re better than others? These are all real questions that cannot be answered with a quick yes or no. If you really want to walk in love, you’ll take the time to thoughtfully consider each of these questions, and allow the Lord to reveal to you any areas where you need to show love.

This could perhaps be the greatest hindrance to receiving anything—including healing—from God. It’s the second greatest commandment! Don’t let a stubborn heart keep you from being healed. Dig into the Word, open up your heart, and ask God to show you where you can grow and love others better. It might just be the key that opens the door to your healing.

4. Become an expert.

Are you an expert on what the Bible says about healing? Become one! You don’t have to go to Bible college or seminary to become an expert on the subject of healing. God designed it that way. It’s so simple to understand, but it takes knowledge to get to unwavering faith.

When you get rid of traditional thinking, the way you were raised, and what the pharmaceutical commercials, the doctors and your neighbors say, you’ll make room for the truth in God’s Word. Healing will come when you convert yourself to agree with God concerning healing. Give God and what He says authority in your life, and you will be prepared to receive your healing.

This is your assignment: Make any necessary adjustments in your life, forgive anyone and everyone, tighten up on your love walk, and get to work becoming an expert at what God’s Word says about healing. God is a good God. It’s His will for you to be healed. We’re not waiting on Him. He’s waiting on us. Prepare to receive your healing!
