Q: What do I do when someone speaks against me?

A: Don’t get discouraged by people speaking against you. Your Father God is for you. He loves you very much, and has great things in store for you. The Bible says the plans God has for you are good and not evil, and they lead to the hope of a bright future (Jeremiah 29:11).

Yes, the enemy seeks to discourage us, and at times he tries to use other people (even Christians) to pull us down. Coming to steal and to kill and to destroy is his MO. But it’s a weak strategy since Jesus came too—and He came to give you life more abundantly (John 10:10).

The last word in any situation is God’s Word. His Word and ways are always higher than man’s ways. You can confidently follow the command in Romans 12:14, 19-21, knowing that God is faithful to His Word: “Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not…. Avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”

As a believer, you can walk confidently in God’s love no matter what others may try to do to you. You do not have to be afraid of the evil words others speak about you or even curses they may try to speak into existence against you. What God says about you is more powerful than what anyone else says: “I will teach all your children, and they will enjoy great peace. You will be secure under a government that is just and fair. Your enemies will stay far away. You will live in peace, and terror will not come near. If any nation comes to fight you, it is not because I sent them. Whoever attacks you will go down in defeat. No weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you” (Isaiah 54:13-15, 17).

We encourage you to take authority in this situation with the love of God by simply declaring the truth of God’s Word and by commanding that every false word spoken against you be defeated and brought to nothing. Keep in mind that those who are trying to hinder God’s plan also need prayer. Pray for them that God’s love would break every bondage in their lives. Remember, love never fails (1Corinthians 13:8)!

The Bible says that no weapon (even a word or a prayer) that is formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). That means you can stand strong in the power of God despite any circumstance you face! We encourage you—don’t give up!
