Q: Is hypnosis a valid tool of medical treatment?

A: Hypnosis is a heathen practice that has been developed through the years as a form of medical treatment. Only recently has it been adopted into western culture as an acceptable means of treating mental and physical illness. However it is not God’s way.

God wants to deal with man on a conscious level, not a subconscious level. Anytime a person subjects his or her will to the power of another, it is an uncontrollable state of being and is contrary to man’s authority given to him by God.

In Webster’s dictionary, the word hypnosis is said to have come from the Greek word hypnos, the name of the Greek god of sleep. This leads us back to Deuteronomy 18:10-12 where God instructs the Hebrew nation through the mouth of Moses: “Do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord....”
