Q: How do I pray so my prayers are answered?

A: Believers are to expect answers to prayer. The Bible is unwavering on that, and it gives us several keys.

Jesus gave us the basics in John 15:7, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” Fellowshiping with Jesus, reading His Word and allowing that Word to live in us are keys to answered prayer.

This is expanded upon in 1 John 5:14-15: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” When we spend time with Jesus and study the Word, we learn what the will of God is for our lives. Then as we pray accordingly, we receive answers because we are praying the will of God.

Another key to understanding answered prayer is that by praying in the spirit in other tongues we are praying according to the will of God (Romans 8:26-27). This is one of the ministries of the Holy Spirit available for our benefit every day. If you haven’t received the Holy Spirit, ask the heavenly Father to give you this wonderful gift (Luke 11:13). Don’t let circumstances shake your faith. As you spend time with Jesus, study the Word, pray accurately and pray in the Holy Spirit, God will show Himself strong on your behalf through answered prayer.
