Trying to figure out how to get on the road to abundance? Follow this road map to living in the overflow!
The Global Positioning System, otherwise known as “GPS,” is the new norm in personal navigation and an amazing tool for getting you where you need to go. With kind instructions, it speaks, “Turn right up ahead. Turn around and go the other way.” If you mess up, it either corrects you or gives you a new route. You don’t even have to read an atlas anymore if you don’t want to. It just tells you what to do and where to go.
As Christians, the Bible serves as our spiritual GPS—always available to tell us which way leads to where we want to go and how to turn around if we get on the wrong path. One desired destination that has eluded many Christians is the overflow. We want to live there, but it seems far away—even unreachable.
Too many Christians are struggling financially—living paycheck to paycheck. They are surviving instead of thriving—deciding which bills can be paid this month and which will have to wait. Some don’t even have a savings account. Brothers and sisters, this should not be.
Jesus said, “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)” (John 10:10, AMPC).
If you feel like you’ve been driving on the wrong road—even in the opposite direction from the overflow—turn on your spiritual GPS, and let this road map to living in the overflow get you back on the road to victory today!
The Starting Point
Before you leave your driveway for any destination, you need fuel in the tank and a solid idea about where you want to arrive. The same is true in pursuing anything in the spiritual realm. Our destination is living in the overflow, but we need fuel in the tank. That fuel is the Word of God. That’s why Romans 12:2 is like a gas light coming on in your vehicle. It warns us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (NKJV). Put simply, if you want to move forward, you need the fuel of God’s Word in your spiritual tank.
The Word of God will show you what overflow looks like. God isn’t the God of just enough or barely scraping by. He is the God of more than enough—the God of overflow! Living in the overflow means having enough to pay tithes, offerings and bills—with a whole lot left over!
God wants to meet all your physical and tangible needs until you are so full, you have no more capacity to hold anything more. Totally filled, packed full and overflowing to the point of bursting at the seams and spilling over. Are you ready to reach out and receive that?
When you renew your mind to a world of abundance and overflow that you’ve never known before, you will begin to see yourself moving ahead toward your desired destination! Rick Renner has his own translation of Philippians 4:19 based on his studies: “My God will supply your needs so completely that He will eliminate all your deficiencies.” Praise God! That’s the overflow we need to journey toward.
We’re going to be making some stops along the way to pick up the supplies we’ll need to live in the overflow. So, fuel your tank with the Word, and let’s get moving!

Stop No. 1: THE BLESSING
“He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.” –Galatians 3:14 (NIV)
If you didn’t pack THE BLESSING for your trip to the overflow, this is an important stop to make. You see, understanding THE BLESSING of Abraham is what brings revelation that leads to overflow. Why? Because “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it” (Proverbs 10:22, NKJV).
Here are what you could call the CliffsNotes® on THE BLESSING: God made a covenant with Abraham, empowering him and his descendants with THE BLESSING—the ability to prosper and excel in everything. Finally, “Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing He promised to Abraham” (Galatians 3:14) because “if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:29, NKJV).
Warning! Road Danger Ahead: The Curse of Never Enough
If you’re on the road to living in the overflow, don’t get caught in this ditch. The threefold curse of the Law includes spiritual death; sickness and disease; and poverty, lack and debt. The curse is a declaration that dooms someone to poverty—never enough, always deficient, inadequate supply and insufficient funds. Deuteronomy 28:29 (AMPC) describes the curse, saying, “You shall not prosper in your ways.”
If you’ve been living this way, you’re stuck in a ditch, but be encouraged! Galatians 3:13 is here to pull you out. “Christ purchased our freedom [redeeming us] from the curse (doom) of the Law [and its condemnation] by [Himself] becoming a curse for us, for it is written [in the Scriptures], Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree (is crucified)” (AMPC). You have been redeemed from the curse of never enough. Don’t ever let your thinking take you there again.
If the devil has pulled the wool over your eyes on that one, tear it off, look him in the face, and say, “I don’t live in lack! I live in the overflow!”
Stop No. 2: God’s Storehouse
“The Lord will open to you His good treasure….” –Deuteronomy 28:12 (NKJV)
At this stop, you’ll find something very special—God’s own personal storehouse. This is where His treasure is found, and He has said that He will throw open the doors of His sky vaults just for you and pour rain on your land, blessing everything you touch. How could you ever struggle, with such provision available to you?! The God of all creation has opened this special place for YOU. He is waiting—even eager—to bless you with every blessing imaginable.
A word of the Lord through Kenneth Copeland about God’s storehouse was this:
“I have a great storehouse. Much more has been stored up in the storehouse of riches beyond your wildest dream that I have laid up before the foundation of the world. Much more is stored up there than what the Church has ever called for. I never held back on the Church, saith The LORD and the God of plenty. I’ve made it available to you. I put it in My WORD. I gave you promise and stood behind it with the blood—the precious blood of your Savior.” —November 10, 2011
Heaven’s reserves are at your call. Come into the storehouse and receive everything God has for you on your way to the overflow. It is a precious and powerful place into which only those who are born again and standing in faith may enter. He says to you today, “I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, Who calls you by your name” (Isaiah 45:3, AMPC).
You don’t need to beg, plead or wish to live in the overflow. Heaven is overloaded with things that God has prepared for your enjoyment. He “will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19, AMPC).
All you have to do is believe and receive. Believing is faith, which comes by renewing your mind in the Word of God. Receiving means “to take,” which has expectancy tied to it. Fear and doubt will block your receiver every time, so get rid of them! Practice expecting and don’t ever speak words of doubt or fear—cast them down immediately.
Stop No. 3: A Place to Be Fully Furnished
“And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthily blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].” –2 Corinthians 9:8 (AMPC)
We’re getting closer to the land of overflow, but we need to be fully furnished when we arrive! When a home is furnished, nothing is missing—it is ready to be occupied. Rick Renner describes it this way:
The phrase “thoroughly furnished” is from a Greek word which means to completely deck out or to fully supply. It was used to depict a ship that had previously been ill-equipped for traveling; but because its owner had decked it out with new equipment and gear, this ship had become thoroughly furnished to sail anywhere in the world. The boat was fully supplied, completely equipped and thoroughly furnished.
The Lord wants to completely “deck out” your life and ministry. He wants to provide everything you would need to supply your needs and the needs of others. He wants you to be “furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation.”
How can you become “fully furnished” for every good work? Proverbs 24:3-4 says, “By wisdom a house is built; it is made secure through understanding. By knowledge its rooms are furnished with all sorts of expensive and beautiful goods” (ISV). The wisdom of God will fill every need and desire. Seek Him, pursue Him, and think about His Word in the morning, during the day and when you go to sleep. Have a teachable spirit that allows God to correct and shape and change you into one who is filled with wisdom and ready to receive.
Stop No. 4: Prosperity Running Over
“Give and it shall be given unto you”—Luke 6:38 (KJV)
If you’ve ever had a bathtub overflow, you know this—it doesn’t seem to stop! That’s the picture of what your prosperity is supposed to look like—pressed down, shaken together and running over. But what started the overflow of the bathtub? Turning on the faucet.
Prosperity running over comes from turning on the faucet of your giving. If you’re wondering where your overflow is, but you aren’t doing any giving—it’s like refusing to turn on the faucet and wondering why your bathtub isn’t overflowing!
The Passion Translation of Luke 6:38 says, “Give generously and generous gifts will be given back to you, shaken down to make room for more. Abundant gifts will pour out upon you with such an overflowing measure that it will run over the top! Your measurement of generosity becomes the measurement of your return.”
Take your tithing and your giving seriously. It is an act of worship and obedience. God says this about honoring Him with the tithe, “See if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it” (Malachi 3:10, NIV).
Sow your seed expecting an overflow—not just wishing and hoping for it. Add fully persuaded faith to your giving and turn on the faucet!
As you tithe and sow, you can use this offering confession from Pastor George Pearsons as you sow in faith:
As I sow my seed of faith today,
I believe it will be given back to me.
It will pour out a surpassing overflow of harvest.
It will be exceedingly, abundantly beyond measure.
The harvest of my seed will be so huge
that it cannot be counted,
and will be impossible to be contained.
It will pour out upon me
with such an overflowing measure.
It will run over the top.
I believe it and receive it in the Name of Jesus!
You Have Arrived
Here it is! The overflow. This is where you live—it’s where you belong. This is where the floodgates of heaven are always open and where constant, abundant provision flows. It isn’t a light rain—it is a violent downpour. Lack and not enough are never a part of your life here. Every need met, more than enough, abundance—that’s living in the overflow.
When you renew your mind and catch the revelation of THE BLESSING, tap into God’s storehouse, and expect to be fully furnished with prosperity running over, you will finally know what it’s like to really live—in the overflow. You never have to be in lack or want again. So, come on into the overflow—there’s more than enough!
